1. Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, Uttarakhand 

Situated in the district of Uttarkashi of Uttarakhand, the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the higher range of the Garhwal Himalayas and occupies an area of about 958 sq km. The altitude of this Sanctuary ranges from the lower bracket of about 1,400 meters to a higher bracket of about 6,323 meters.

With the elevation, you will get to see a wide variety of forests like— Himalayan subalpine conifer forests, Himalayan alpine shrub and meadows, and Himalayan broadleaf forests. This Sanctuary is home to around fifteen species of mammals and around one hundred and fifty species of birds.

This Wildlife Sanctuary, within its reach, has the beautiful Har Ki Doon valley, which is a profound adventure spot and attracts many tourists. It includes many popular mountains such as—Bandarpunch, Swargarohini, and Black Peak.  

2. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Kerala

Situated in the districts of Pathanamthitta and Idukki of Kerela, the Periyar National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the high ranges of the Pandalam Hills and Cardamom Hills of Western Ghats at an altitude varying from 1,700 meters to 100 meters above sea level. 

The Periyar National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is rich in a freshening variety of flora and a tempting variety of fauna which cover the area of about 770 sq km.

You will find the Periyar lake flowing through the wilderness of the Sanctuary, at the shores of which many animals gather to quench their thirst.

You can choose a boat safari over the lake, an elephant safari, or a jungle patrolling to add to your thrilling adventure.

3. Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, Karnataka

In the district of Uttara Kannada of Karnataka state, the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is located. It covers an area of around 866.41 sq km. 

It is one of the most hyped sanctuaries for homing a variety of rare plant and animal species including—the great Indian hornbill, the muntjac, the Malabar pied hornbill, the Malabar giant squirrel, the Indian pangolin, and the Indian jackal.

Also, it is a perfect place for birdwatchers and wildlife photographers owing to the presence of alluring creatures and migrating birds. The Kali rivers have its banks along with the Sanctuary and add to its scenic beauty.

4. Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary, Gujarat

The Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Great Rann of Kutch in the district of Kutch, Gujarat. It expands to an area of about 7506.22 sq km and is the largest wildlife sanctuary of India.

The beautiful seasonal behavior of its saline wetlands attracts a large number of greater flamingos to nest in this saline dessert. The average depth of these waters lies between 0.5 meters and 1.5 meters.

This Sanctuary supports an enormous batch of water birds and mammalian wildlife and is also a fossil preserve homing fossils of historic dinosaurs, crocodiles, whales, etc. 

5. Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, Goa 

Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary is a protected area that expands over around 240 sq km in the Western Ghats, in Sanguem taluk of the Goa State. It has many significant temples and beautiful waterfalls, such as— Tambdi Surla Temple, Devils Canyon, Tambdi Falls, and Dudhsagar Falls—within its reach giving ample reasons to the people to visit this Sanctuary more.

The Sanctuary and its near lying areas home about 722 species of fauna and a jillion of fauna. You may witness an exotic and fascinating variety of birds, mammals, butterflies, and reptiles. If photography is your thing, then this is the right place for you.

6. Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary, Arunachal Pradesh

The Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the district of Upper Dibang Valley of Arunachal Pradesh and covers an area of about 4,149 sq km. This Sanctuary serves as a home to lush biodiversity including a variety of plant and animal species.

This fascinating club of wildlife and the scenic beauties, including— snow-capped mountains, glittering streams, dense forests, and beautiful gorges—provide as an attraction to the tourists and birdwatchers.
