 Long-haul flight are pretty intimidating for a seasonal flier, even more so when it is your first time going on one. The prolonged hours, sketchy food choices, the small uncomfortable seats, and most of all, ways to pass your time.

It’d be miserable for anyone after spending long, boring hours on a flight doing absolutely nothing but watching the generic movie being played overhead, or reading a book you don’t enjoy.

If this describes what you’re about to face in the future, read on to find out how you can spend your time in a long haul flight without feeling like jumping off the plane.

Choose an airline based on other factors apart from price.

Whether you want to take off your sandals and stretch, or walk effortlessly when you hit turbulence, or slouch and slump in when you’re sleeping, your attire should be able to let you do so without putting strain on you.

Snug, cosy clothing like a tee, pajamas and a shawl or shrug along with a pair of flats are the best choice when you want to spend long hours on flight without making your neck crick and your body ache.

Furnish your tablet/ laptop.

It is better to equip whatever device you’re choosing to bring on the flight with the entertainment you might need beforehand. Download what you think you might need- books, movies and music. 

You may choose a long read novel that you know you’ll enjoy and one short non-fiction book related to any of your interests, such as business, gardening, cooking, etc.

Have a few classic, popular and unwatched movies on hand along with your favorite ones. 

Equip your device with your favorite music app as well, so you can listen to your choice of tunes anytime you want. That way you won’t run out of things to do. And, don’t forget to carry your noise- canceling headphones.

Check for an upgrade.

You might want to consider going for an upgrade if you’re travelling long hours. Many airlines nowadays offer frequent economy travelers the choice for an upgrade instead of the regular elite flyers.

You can ask the airline agents for it at check- in or departure gate. Or you can use your miles to upgrade to first class. Do check before, during and after your flight ticket bookings if they’re available and in your budget.
