Legal Action over Ryanair for Refusing to Compensate Canceled Flights

Big problems over Ryanair, as legal action has been taken by UK’s Aviation watchdog. This is because the airliner refused to compensate for the cancellation of many UK customers affected by air flight ticket booking disruption.

The passengers made compensation claims to the airline but got rejected on the grounds that disruption arose from unprecedented circumstances.

But the Civil Aviation Authority said that all the passengers were entitled to compensation under the law of EU.

The passengers who made compensation claims through AviationADR will have to wait for the CAA’s legal action.

The regulator advised the passengers to get in touch with the complaints team, who either weren’t fully satisfied with the outcome or didn’t get any revert from the airlines.

According to the ADR services, the figures show that about 30% appeals were from Ryanair passengers accounted for the biggest proportion.

Moreover, there was a series of staff walkouts in the Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, Belgium, including Sweden. There the airliner had pledged to compensate by offering alternative flight ticket bookings to the passengers.

Ryanair had secured a breakthrough in the month of August by striking a deal with Irish pilots over pay and conditions. Thereby securing an agreement with the German pilots.

Welcoming the CAA’s move the consumer group with Rory Boland, travel editor said- Since Ryanair tried to shirk its responsibilities by refusing to pay out compensation for canceling services, the customers would’ve been really outraged by this act.

All the families were left stranded with their vacation plans stalled. In order to ensure that the airline must finally do the right thing, CAA is now taking legal action against Ryanair.

Moreover, a consumer expert at MoneySavingExpert.com said that it an airline refusing to compensate to the passengers is an outrageous act when their own staff has striked.

And what didn’t count as an extraordinary circumstance is that the European court of justice ruled that as a wildcat strike.

Apart from that, other legal interpretations where another analyst at Irish stockbroker Goodbody said that- the Barcelona court decision noted no compensation is due to customers whose flights are canceled due to an internal strike.

Continuing further, in the past, Lufthansa was not obliged to pay EU261 allowances when pilots striked for two weeks.

Moreover, the UK CAA action against Ryanair, no action was actually taken when the staff strike in British Airways last year.
