International Flights To and From India Will Resume Starting 27 March 2022

The COVID situation has greatly improved in the nation and people are normalizing their lives to pre coronavirus times. And DGCA has finally given the good news of resuming international flights to and from India starting 27 March. Till now, only special flights approved by DGCA were allowed and those also had many restrictions placed on them. The civil aviation ministry has been in talks with the health ministry from the second week of February 2022. The decision came as a result of careful scenario analysis keeping the passengers’ health and safety in mind.

  1. All flights were suspended till further orders.
  2. Special flights started operating from May 2020. And flight exchanges with other nations started after forming a bilateral Air Bubble Agreement with them.
  3. India is in a bilateral agreement with 32 nations including Canada, Australia, the UK, Kenya, and the USA.
  4. The DGCA gave the green signal for normalizing the flight operations from 15 December 2021. But due to the growing spread of the deadly Omicron variant, the decision had to be rescinded.
  5. The government decided to ease the travel restrictions on arrivals and do away with the list of countries that were categorized as ‘At-Risk’.

After seeing that the domestic flights soon reached the 80% operation benchmark, the authorities discussed the suspended international flights. The DGCA in its statement said that the international operations are resuming but they have to precisely follow the health ministry’s guidelines. The scheduled international flights will remain suspended till 11.59 P.M. 26 March 2022.
