Due to the large number of Indians heading to US universities this fall, Air India has announced that it will be doubling its non- stop US flights from 7th August, 2021. Since the US imposed restrictions on 4th May, 2021 on Indian travelers, the number of Air India weekly flights was reduced from more than 40 non- stop students flights to less than 10 per week.
Presently, to accommodate the growing number of passengers, the airline will be operating a minimum of 21 non- stop flights weekly to US. The maximum increase of flights are chiefly to New York (JFK and Newark or EWR), followed by those to Chicago and San Francisco according to known sources.
United Airlines, the only other airline providing non- stop flights between US and India, is not revising the Indian flight frequencies for now. Consequently, travel restrictions are also being lifted for Canada to India travel and vice versa because India to Canada students are a growing majority.
