Canada relaxes Covid test rules for Indian travelers

In the latest travel updates, Canada has announced the relaxation in Covid-19 testing norms for Indian travelers. This means people traveling from India will no longer be required to take a pre-departure Covid-19 test from another country before entering Canadian borders. In its latest communication, the Canadian government removed the guidelines of pre-departure test for people entering Canada on direct or indirect flights from India within 18 hours of departure.

With the experience of the Omicron Variant, many scientists and researchers opposed the targeting of travelers with country bans and restrictions to control the spread of Covid-19. Travelers planning to fly to Canada can find the best travel deals online with Tripbeam and they do not need to carry a negative Covid test report within 18 hours from an approved laboratory at New Delhi International Airport.

  • International passengers do not need to undergo RT PCR tests at Delhi airport in order to board their flights.
  • Direct or one-stop flights do not require travelers to present a negative RT PCR for COVID test taken no earlier than 18 hours before leaving.
  • RT-PCR COVID test reports are mandatory for all Indian visitors to Canada and should be from an ICMR-approved laboratory.
  • Fully vaccinated passengers do not need to carry a negative Coronavirus report but must provide and upload their relevant information to ArriveCan via the mobile app or website.

To enter Canada via connecting flights, travelers must present negative results of their COVID-19 test at the point of departure before they can be admitted. Travelers who are unvaccinated or using unapproved vaccines will be quarantined for three days until they receive the results of their COVID-19 test. In addition, travelers who are not exempted have to take the mandatory molecular COVID-19 test prior to departure unless exempted, while antigen tests are not accepted.
