Tripbeam suggests visiting the palace in its entirety- hanging gardens, terraces, corridors, pavilions, and Mahals.

The granite and marble edifices have a regal mix of Chinese and medieval European influences in their domes, turrets, and arches. Some of the best movies such as ‘Octopussy’ and ‘Guide’ have been filmed here as well.

2. Lake Pichola

Did you know that this lake is one of the oldest and largest artificial lakes in the heart of the city of Udaipur? Every year, it is visited by lakhs of tourists because of its serenity and tranquil atmosphere. It was built by the  Pichhu Banjara during the reign of Maharana Lakha in 1362 AD.

It is the second-largest artificial lake in the country with seven islands, one of which is still inhabited by the local tribes. The marble dam here has a local temple dedicated to Shiva and six cenotaphs. It is also the home to various rare species of animals and birds. Also known as the Dhebar Lake by the people who live there, it is a live proof of Mewar people being conscious about their ways of worship.

This is possible because of its strategic location at the vantage point of one of the Aravalli hilltops, called Bansdara Peak.

However, due to the early death of Maharana Sajjan Singh, this never became a reality. His successor, Maharana Fateh Singh, was of a different opinion and transformed the palace into a recreational palace. From then on, it was used as a hunting lodge for the royal family and its guests. True to its inheritance, the Palace boasts a traditional architecture of the Rajputs. Tripbeam.ca says that even at that time, the palace had the facilities to harvest rainwater in curious scientific ways.
