Rights for air passengers in Canada have been a matter of concern for many years. When mostly all the airlines have been issuing compensations to the travelers in case of flight cancellation or route change from the airlines’ end, people in Canada were not getting the same.

6 Air Passengers Rights for Canadian Travelers

And for the passengers who have fixed plans or business meetings, such sudden cancellations can be very frustrating.

All these issues linked with the security of passenger rights were sorted with the Air Passengers Protection Regulations under the Canadian Transportation Agency.

The new regulations are to make sure that air travel for passengers is more comfortable.

The major role played by the rules includes the allowance of compensation in case of delay in flights.

When you have booked tickets for India from Canada, you should be well aware of what exactly you are entitled to for a comfortable travel experience.

1. Compensation in case of denied boarding

If you have purchased a valid ticket fare from Canada to India and you have been denied boarding for the reasons under the airline’s control, you can ask for the compensation.

The reason for the denial of boarding should not relate to the security of fellow passengers.

However, other reasons for the denial might include overbooking of the flights.

The compensation made largely depends on the length of the delay after you reach the final destination.

The amount for the compensation paid to the earliest or within a maximum duration of 48 hours.

This new rule can be put to use for your benefit in case you volunteer to give up your tickets from India to Toronto in exchange for a voucher.

And in some cases, the airlines will have to rebook the passengers some other flight. This is without the payment of any extra charges.

2. Damage or Loss of Luggage

For the travelers who have received damaged baggage or have not received the baggage at all will get compensation in the domestic flights in Canada.

The settlement in case of loss or damage baggage can be as high as $2,100.

The only thing that you must notice in case of damaged luggage is that the claim should be made within seven days of receiving damaged luggage

In case of lost baggage, the passengers should claim within 21 days of the supposed delivery time.

Also, in case of damage and loss of luggage, the airline will pay back the baggage fees, if any, paid from your end.

3. Seating for Children

Before the implementation of the regulations, children were not allowed to sit with their parents, tutors, or guardians.

But now, after online air ticket booking from Canada to Indiayou can be sure that your kid will be sitting with you in the near proximity.

Children under the age of five years will be getting adjacent seats. The children less than 14 years of age can sit in the same row as their parents or guardians.

If not, the separation should not be more than one row as per the regulations.

The passengers will not have to pay any extra charges for getting such a seating arrangement.

However, if you wish to book the seats that you like, you can make the booking online. But in such cases, you will have to pay for the advance seat selection.

4. Refunds and Rebooking

As per the regulations, in case the flight delay and cancellation exceeds three hours, it lies the responsibility of the airlines to rebook the flights.

In the case of larger airlines, if the nearest available flight departs after 9 hours of the original departure, the airline might also need to book your Edmonton to India flights with competing airlines.

And if the passengers do not wish for a rebooking, the compensation of the full ticket will be made.

Also, if you travel with a larger airline, you will get a payment of $400. For the smaller airlines compensation of $125 is provided because of the inconvenience caused.

5. Delays on Tarmac

If you have ever stuck in the tarmac, you can easily correlate with the frustration.

As per the new rules, passengers can use proper ventilation, washrooms, drinks, and food. Also, they can even the ability to talk to the people outside the plane.

It can be simply understood in a way that the airlines cannot force the passengers to stick to their seats during tarmac delay on their tickets to India from Toronto.

Also, you do not necessarily need to keep your cell phones in the airplane mode in such situations.

Moreover, in case of the delay of the airlines for more than three hours at the Canadian airport, the airline should return to the gate to let the passengers disembark.

Also, there is an additional period of 45 minutes for the airlines to take off if possible during such delay.

6. Compensation in case of flight disruption

The air passengers who have booked flights to India from Canada are likely to get compensation up to $1000 depending on the length of the delay. It also depends on the airline they are flying with.

Although it might take as long as a year to get the claim. But, the airlines respond within 30 days by paying what you owe. They might also explain the reason for you owning nothing.

However, the reasons for the payment of refunds are not under the control of the airlines. So not paying you the compensation is a rare case scenario.

Also, you should note that the airlines will make the compensation only when asked for the same.

The compensations and the rules for the same are a step in the right direction to protect the rights of travelers.

With the prior knowledge of all these regulations and provisions, you can book your cheap tickets to India from Canada without much hassle.
