Popular Places to Travel to in New York

New York, one of the greatest cities of the world, has always been a whirlwind of activities, too much to offer and never enough time to explore it all. Many people come here for different reasons- some want to see the Broadway shows, some to dine and shop, some for business or to visit the many historical sites the city serves.

One best thing is that all such ancient structures are usually close to each other- either in walking distance or a short ride away. This is an absolute delight for the sightseers looking to explore the destinations.

You can find air tickets to New York at the best booking site for flights who’ll offer cheap air tickets and best airfare deals. So whether you’re a local who’s just realizing their wanderlust or a vacationer looking for a getaway, these places would serve up as an introduction to the city.

1) Statue of Liberty

Gifted to America by France, the Statue of Liberty was built in 1886 and remains world’s greatest symbol of freedom till date. It is one of the world’s largest statues, standing tall at just under 152 ft. from base to the torch, and weighs around 450,000 pounds.

You can see the statue from land, with best vistas from Battery Park that is located on the southern tip of Manhattan, in particular.

But the ideal way is to go experience it yourself, by taking a short boat trip to Liberty Island. When you reach there, you can either have a walk around the base and/ or enter the pedestal. However, if you have made proper reservations beforehand, you can go right up to the crown.

While you’re taking a tour of the Statue of Liberty, take a rest at Ellis Island and go explore the Immigration Museum, where in the immigration complex, thousands of immigrants were processed before entering the United States of America.

For something novel, you can even search the on- site computer database to figure out the record of immigrants who came through the place. A word of caution: tickets to go inside the statue sell out pretty quickly.

So pre- purchasing the tickets during peak or any season is a good idea in general. Also, buying tickets at the ferry can turn out to be tricky since there are many peddlers who claim to be official representatives and try to sell you more expensive tickets before you can find the actual ticket booth.

If self travel isn’t your thing, book a guided tour to The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island that is a 4 hour trip and allows early reserve line access to board the ferry. It also includes access to Pedestal Museum and Ellis Island Museum.

2) Rockefeller Center & Top of the Rock Observation Deck

Topping the list of itineraries on every person traveling to New York City, Rockefeller Center takes the icing on the cake. It is a massive shopping and entertainment complex nestled in the heart of Manhattan.

The finest part of this place is the 70-storey 30 Rockefeller Plaza that is an Art Deco skyscraper offering amazingly scenic vistas of Manhattan from the renowned Top of the Rock Observation Deck.

Buy a Top of the Rock Observation Deck ticket in advance so you enjoy the indoor and outdoor views at anytime of the day or night from the 3 floors- 67th, 69th and 70th floors.

The tickets come with a flexible voucher redemption policy as well, just in case you can’t make it on the date reserved and want to change it or if the weather isn’t suitable for visiting. It comes in handy when you want to change the dates for when your plans change.

Skating is popularly done on the outside rink at the base of the tower and is a fun activity to do among families and couples. The rink is usually open from October to April. After celebrating Thanksgiving, they erect an enormous Christmas tree at the front of the skating rink, lighting up the place for the holiday season.

It is a very popular event in New York as many people plan their vacations around December just to see this spot. While you’re at it, do check out the bronze sculpture of Atlas at the front of the International building as it is a great spot for clicking pictures and saving the memory permanently.
